Note: Style of architecture and design first popular in the United States in the 1950s, typified by roadside buildings such as coffee shops, motels, gas stations, and signs. The style is characterized by bold, angular forms and an intensive use of steel, glass, and neon inspired by The Space Age, science fiction, and car culture. Although origin of the term is unknown, it is speculated to have come from Googie's Coffee Shop in Los Angeles, California, and has since been used to describe similar designs.

| Dutch ..... Architectuur- en ontwerpstijl die in de jaren 50 van de 20ste eeuw populair werd in de Verenigde Staten, en met name werd toegepast bij koffiehuizen, motels, benzinestations, reclameborden en andere bouwsels langs de weg. De stijl wordt gekenmerkt door krachtige, hoekige vormen en een intensief gebruik van staal, glas en neon; als inspiratiebron dienden het ruimtetijdperk, de sciencefiction en de autowereld. De oorsprong van de term is niet bekend. Er wordt echter gespeculeerd dat hij zou zijn ontleend aan de ontwerpstijl van Googie's Coffee Shop in Los Angeles, Californië. |

Estilo arquitectónico y de diseño que primeramente fue popular en los Estados Unidos en la década de 1950 y tipificado por edificios ubicados en carreteras, como cafés, moteles, estaciones de servicios y señaléticas. El estilo se caracteriza por formas gruesas y angulares y un amplio uso de metal, vidrio y neón, inspirado por la era del espacio, ciencia ficción y la cultura al automóvil. A pesar que el origen del término es desconocido, se especula que proviene del café 'Googie's Coffee Shop'de Los Ángeles, California y empleado desde entonces para describir diseños similares. |
