Note: Refers to the religious movement that emerged in Persia in the third century, founded by Mani the 'Apostle of Light' as an ecumenical and universal belief system integrating ideas from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Taoism, Islam, and Judaism. The religious movement is generally considered a type of Gnosticism, a system based on the attainment of salvation through knowledge of spiritual truth. It advocates self-knowledge and inner illumination as a defense against succumbing to the evil world of matter and as a path to salvation. Highly dualistic in philosophy, this movement is characterized by the belief in the antithetical substances of Light and Dark, Spirit and Matter, and Good and Evil. The religious community is divided into the elect, who embrace the rigorous, ascetic lifestyle, and into the hearers, who support the elect through works. Essentials of this religion include sacramental rites, almsgiving, fasting, confession, and the singing of hymns and the recitation of scriptural canon.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 西元三世紀在波斯興起的宗教運動，創立者是「光之使徒」摩尼(Mani)，為融合佛教、基督教、印度教、道教、伊斯蘭教及猶太教思想的普世信仰體系。此宗教運動一般被認為是一種諾斯底主義(Gnosticism)，相信要透過心靈真理的知識才能獲得救贖。主張以自覺與內在光照為防衛，避免屈服於邪惡物質世界，並以之為通往救贖的路徑。其哲學為高度二元論。此運動的特色為相信光與暗、精神與物質、善與惡為對立。此宗教社會將信徒分為兩類，其一為選者（僧侶），遵循嚴格苦行的生活方式，其二為聽者（信徒），透過各式勞動支持選者。此宗教的要素包括聖禮儀式、救濟、禁食、告解、唱聖歌與誦經。 |

Verwijst naar de religieuze beweging die opkwam in Perzië in de derde eeuw en werd opgericht door Mani, de 'Apostel van het licht', als een oecumenisch en universeel geloofssysteem met daarin geïntegreerd ideeën uit het boeddhisme, het christendom, het hindoeïsme, het taoïsme, de islam en het jodendom. De religieuze beweging wordt algemeen beschouwd als een soort gnosticisme, een systeem dat is gebaseerd op het verkrijgen van verlossing door het kennen van de spirituele waarheid. Er wordt gestreefd naar zelfkennis en innerlijke verlichting als bescherming tegen een overgave aan de kwade materiële wereld en als weg naar de verlossing. Deze beweging heeft een enigszins dualistische filosofie en wordt gekenmerkt door het geloof in de tegengestelde substanties van licht en donker, het spirituele en het materiële, en het goede en het kwade. De religieuze gemeenschap is verdeeld in de uitverkorenen, die zich aan de strikte, ascetische levensstijl houden, en de toehoorders, die de uitverkorenen ondersteunen. Belangrijke elementen van deze religie zijn onder meer sacramentele riten, liefdadigheid, vasten, de biecht, het zingen van hymnen en het reciteren van heilige geschriften. |

Se refiere al movimiento religioso que surgió en Persia en el siglo tercero, fundado por Mani el "Apóstol de la Luz" como un sistema de creencias ecuménicas y universales que integra ideas desde el budismo, cristianismo, hinduismo, taoismo, islamismo y judaismo. El movimiento religiosos es considerado generalmente como un tipo de gnosticismo, un sistema basado en la consicuencia de la salvación a través del conocimiento de la verdad espiritual. Enfocado al auto-conocimiento e iluminación interior como una defensa para no sucumbir al mundo material del demonio y como paso para la salvación. La filosofía poco dualista, de este movimiento es caracterizado por la creencia en la sustancia anti-ética de la luz y la oscuridad, espíritu y materia, Dios o el demonio. La comunidad religiosa se divide en los elegidos, quienes abrazan la rigurosidad, una vida ascética, y escuchando su interior, que soporta la elección a través del trabajo. Esencialmente esta religión incluye los ritos sacramentales, como el arrepentimiento, ayuno, confesión, y el canto de los himnos y recitación de las Escrituras canónicas. |
