Note: A Christian religious order following the rule of St. Benedict of Nursia (ca. 480-547). St. Benedict's rule is a detailed guide for the government and spiritual and material welfare of a monastery. By the 7th century the rule was also being applied to women and by the early 9th century it had supplanted most other monastic styles in northern and western Europe. Benedictines hold to the well-rounded daily routine of prayer, manual labor, and study prescribed by St. Benedict. Stability, group prayer, and obedience to the abbot are emphasized. The order, which is composed of autonomous monasteries, has a long tradition of scholarship and teaching.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 遵從努西亞之聖本篤(St. Benedict of Nursia, 西元480-547年)戒律的基督教教團。聖本篤戒律對修道院的管理、精神及物質福祉有詳細的指導方針。到七世紀，此戒律也應用於女性，且到九世紀初時，已取代了北歐與西歐大部分的其他修道模式。本篤會堅持聖本篤所規定之完善的每日慣例，包括祈禱、手工勞動，以及研讀。強調穩定、團體禱告及服從院長。此修會體系的修道院為自治制度，有長久的學問及教誨傳統。 |
| Dutch ..... Een christelijke religieuze orde volgens de Regula Benedicti, de kloosterregel van de heilige Benedictus van Nursia (ca. 480-547). De Regula Benedicti is een gedetailleerde richtlijn voor het bestuur en het spirituele en materiële welzijn van een klooster. Vanaf de 7de eeuw gold de kloosterregel ook voor vrouwen en in de vroege 9de eeuw had de regel vrijwel alle andere kloosterregels in Noord- en West-Europa verdrongen. Benedictijnen houden zich aan een afgewogen dagelijks ritme van gebed, lichamelijke arbeid en studie, zoals voorgeschreven door de heilige Benedictus. Stabiliteit, groepsgebed en gehoorzaamheid aan de abt zijn erg belangrijk. De orde, die bestaat uit autonome kloosters, heeft een lange traditie van wetenschap en onderwijs. |
| Spanish ..... Orden religiosa cristiana que sigue la regla de San Benito de Nursia ( 480-547 d.C). La regla de San Benito es una guía detallada para el gobierno y bienestar material y espiritual de un monasterio. Por el siglo VII la regla fue también aplicada a mujeres y en el siglo IX temprano sustituyó a la mayoría de otros estilos monásticos en el norte y occidente de Europa. Los Benedictinos sostenían la rutina diaria de oración, trabajo manual y estudio prescrita por San Benito. Se establecen grupos de oración, obediencia para el abad y la curia. La orden, cuya composición es autonoma en cada monasterio, tienen una larga tradición en la formación escolar y de enseñanza. |
