Note: Gum produced from grinding the seeds of the carob tree to a fine powder, which dissolves in hot water and cools to form a stable gel that is an excellent film former. The gum is used as dye thickener, and as size for food, cosmetics, textiles, and paper. Locust bean gums have been detected in the wrappings of Egyptian mummies.

Gom dat wordt geproduceerd door de zaden van de johannesbroodboom te vermalen tot een fijn poeder, die oplost in warm water en afkoelt tot een stabiele gel die uitstekend is geschikt om folie mee te maken. De gom wordt gebruikt als verdikkingsmiddel voor verfstof en als appret voor voedsel, cosmetica, textiel en papier. Johannesbroodpitmeel is aangetroffen in de windselen van Egyptische mummies. |
