Note: Pieces of protective boards or other heavy paper with an opening or openings cut in order to reveal a two dimensional visual work. Mats typically comprise two pieces, the bottom piece supports the print or other work, and the top piece contains an opening through which the work may be viewed. The boards may be hinged together to form a protective folder. Mats are used for prints, watercolors, pastels, other works of art, documents, or other generally flat objects.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Beschermmappen voor kunstwerken, documenten of andere, in het algemeen platte, voorwerpen. Ze zijn meestal gemaakt van karton of stevig papier en bestaan meestal uit een stevige plank waarop het voorwerp wordt geplaatst en een scharnierende plank erboven waarin een opening is gemaakt om het voorwerp te omlijsten.
