Note: Carved wooden ancestral poles, large in size, made by the Asmat people of the Sepik region. The figures on the sculptures represent deceased clan members who were murdered by enemy clans. A recurring characteristic of most bisj is the phallus, representing the strength of male fertility. These memorial poles were constructed for funerary ceremonies that commemorated the deceased. Designs vary depending on the area or group who constructed the bisj.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 畢斯傑柱是巨大的祖傳木雕柱,是由塞皮克地區的阿斯瑪特族人所製作。雕刻品上方的人像代表著遭敵方部落所謀害喪生的部落族人。大部分的畢斯傑柱以都有一個重覆出現的特徵,即巨大的陰莖,代表男性強大的生殖力。這些具紀念性的柱子是為了喪禮儀式所建造而成,目的是為了紀念往生者。設計圖案則依畢斯傑柱建造者所屬的地區或族群而有所不同。 
Dutch ..... Bisj-palen zijn de reusachtige houten voorouderpalen met houtsnijwerk die door het Asmat-volk uit de regio Sepik zijn vervaardigd. De figuren op de palen stellen overleden, door rivaliserende stammen vermoorde stamleden voor. Een telkens terugkerend element in de bisj is de enorme fallus, die de kracht van de mannelijke vruchtbaarheid symboliseert. Deze gedenkpalen werden opgericht voor begrafenisceremonieën waarbij de overledenen werden herdacht. Het ontwerp verschilt, afhankelijk van het gebied of van de groep die de bisj heeft gemaakt. 
Portuguese ..... Mastros ancestrais esculpidos em madeira, grandes em tamanho, feitos pelo povo Asmat da região Sepik. As figuras nas esculturas representam membros clãs mortos que foram assassinados por seus inimigos. Uma característica recorrente de muitos bisj é o falo que representa a força da fertilidade masculina. Esses mastros memoriais foram construídos para cerimônias funerárias que comemoravam o falecido. Os desenhos variam dependendo da área ou grupo que construiu o bisj.
