Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Versterkte wijkplaatsen die als toevluchtsoord worden gebruikt in tijden van oorlog, gebouwd op heuveltoppen in het oosten van Kenia door de Mijikenda en verwante volkeren. Veel kaya's worden als heilige plaatsen beschouwd. 
Spanish ..... Santuario fortificado utilizado como refugio en tiempos de guerra, situado sobre la parte superior de las colinas en el este de Kenya entre el Mijikenda y los pueblos vecinos. Muchos kayas son considerados como lugares sagrados.
