Note: Refers to earthenware decorated in a freehand manner with raised clay slip designs. The slip may be applied through slip trailing or piping. The technique was first employed on Rhenish pottery prior to the 3rd century BCE, replacing molded decoration. The slip was applied by piping to decorate the edges of flat dishes with small flowers and other designs. The technique was again used in the mid- and late 1800s, but it was not popular because firing difficulties caused the slip to flake off easily.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指以隨意捏塑之凸起黏土泥漿釉做為裝飾的泥器。泥漿釉可採拖漿法或滾邊法塗於器上。此技術首見於萊茵河流域之陶器（Rhenish pottery），年代可追溯自西元前三世紀以前，模壓裝飾法為泥漿滾邊所取代，平盤邊緣以泥漿滾成之小花和其他花樣裝飾。西元1800年代中期及後期有陶匠再度採用此技術，不過當時並未普及，因為烘燒不易，泥漿容易剝落。 |
| Dutch ..... Aardewerk dat is versierd uit de vrije hand, met opgelegde slipmotieven die zijn aangebracht met een pipet. De techniek werd het eerst gebruikt op Rijnlands aardewerk van vóór de 3de eeuw v. Chr., ter vervanging van decoratieve reliëfvormen. De engobedecoratie werd als bies aangebracht om de randen van vlakke schalen te versieren met kleine bloemen en andere motieven. De techniek werd wederom gebruikt in het midden en aan het einde van de 19de eeuw, maar was niet populair omdat er snel stukjes van de engobe loskwamen door problemen met het bakken. |
