Note: Refers to French Protestants of the 16th and 17th centuries. After the Reformation began in Germany in 1517, it quickly spread to France, where it was particularly popular in areas that were economically depressed and populated by people who had grievances against the government. Although their numbers dwindled due to persecution and emigration, Huguenots were granted religious freedom with the French Revolution and the National Assembly in 1789. The Reformed Church of France, organized in 1938, merged a number of Reformed groups that had developed in France during and after the 16th-century.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指十六、十七世紀的法國新教徒。西元1517年宗教改革始於德國後，便快速擴展至法國，特別盛行於經濟蕭條、對政府不滿之人民所居住的地區。胡格諾派常受嚴重迫害；首位殉教者於西元1523年被燒死在火刑柱上。米克斯(Meaux)，首座建於法國領土上的胡格諾派社區，依史特拉斯堡(Strasbourg)的樣式於西元1546年建立，並於西元1559年由新教教會在巴黎召開宗教大會，制定深受喀爾文影響的信綱。歷經長時間血腥暴力的宗教戰爭後，胡格諾派終於在西元1598年以南特詔書(Edict of Nantes)獲得宗教與政治自由。但衝突仍舊持續，南特詔書又在西元1685年遭廢除，導致數十萬的法國新教徒必須移居。雖然仍舊遭受零星迫害，且信徒人數逐漸減少，胡格諾派卻從未完全消失，且因為法國大革命的誕生，國民議會於西元1789年確立了宗教自由，並允許新教徒從事各種職業。法國西歸正會(Reformed Church of France)於西元1938年成立，合併了一些十六世紀期間及之後在法國發展出的宗教改革團體。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar Franse protestanten uit de 16de en 17de eeuw. Nadat de Reformatie in 1517 in Duitsland was begonnen, breidde deze zich uit naar Frankrijk, waar de aanhang vooral groot was in economisch zwakke gebieden, bevolkt door mensen met grieven tegen de overheid. De hugenoten werden vaak streng vervolgd; de eerste martelaar van de hugenoten belandde in 1523 op de brandstapel. Meaux, de eerste gemeenschap van hugenoten op Frans grondgebied, werd gesticht in 1546 naar het model van Straatsburg. In 1559 riep de protestantse kerk de synode bijeen in Parijs en werd een geloofsbelijdenis opgesteld die sterk was beïnvloed door Johannes Calvijn. Na de lange en gewelddadige godsdiensttwisten verkregen de hugenoten uiteindelijk religieuze en politieke vrijheid in 1598 met het Edict van Nantes. De strubbelingen duurden echter voort en het Edict werd in 1685 herroepen. Als gevolg hiervan emigreerden honderdduizenden Franse protestanten. Hoewel sporadisch vervolging bleef plaatsvinden en hun aantallen sterk verminderden, zijn de hugenoten nooit volledig geëlimineerd. Bij het begin van de Franse Revolutie bekrachtigde de Assemblée Nationale in 1789 de vrijheid van godsdienst en verleende protestanten toegang tot alle overheidsfuncties. De gereformeerde kerk van Frankrijk organiseerde zich in 1938, waarbij een aantal gereformeerde groepen fuseerden die tijdens en na de 16de eeuw waren ontstaan in Frankrijk. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere a los protestantes franceses de los siglo XVI y XVII. Posterior a la Reforma comenzó en Alemania en 1517, se difundió rapidamente a Francia, en donde fue particularmente popular en las áreas que estaban económicamente deprimidas y pobladas por personas que tenían quejas en contra del gobierno. Los hugonotes fueron a menudo severamente perseguidos; el primer mártir hugonote fue quemado en la hoguera en 1523. Meaux, la primera comunidad hugonota en territorio francés, fue fundada en 1546.1546 en el modelo de Estrasburgo y del sínodo convocado en París por la Iglesia protestante en 1559 se elaboró una confesión de la fe que fue influenciada fuertemente por Juan Calvino. Después de la larga y violenta Guerra de Religiones, los Hugenotes finalmente obtuvieron en 1598 su libertad religiosa y política con el decreto de Nantes.
