Note: Brass, sometimes nickel-plated, lamps with separate burners and reservoirs, which are usually cylindrical and are mounted on a vertical rod standard on which they may be raised and lowered; fitted with tall chimneys and glass conical or hemispherical shades. Originally oil lamps with Argand burners, the term was later applied to lamps resembling the form but employing different methods of illumination.

| Dutch ..... Koperen, soms vernikkelde, lampen met aparte branders en reservoirs, meestal cilindervormig en op een verticale standaard gezet zodat ze omhoog en omlaag kunnen worden gebracht. Ze hebben lange rookkanalen en glazen kegelvormige of halfronde kappen. Oorspronkelijk waren het olielampen met Argandbranders, later werd de naam gebruikt voor lampen van soortgelijke vorm die volgens andere principes werken. |

Messinglampe, manchmal vernickelt, mit separatem Brenner und Tank, die in der Regel zylindrisch sind und an einer senkrechten Stange höhenverstellbar befestigt werden; mit einem großen Lampenzylinder und kegel- oder halbkugelförmigem gläsernen Schirm versehen. Ursprünglich eine Öllampe mit Argandbrenner, bezog sich der Begriff später auf eine Lampe, die ihr in der Form ähnelte, aber unterschiedliche Lichtquellen verwendete. |
