Note: Colorant made from kermesic acid that is extracted from the dried bodies of female kermes insects. Kermes dye was used since ancient times. It contains 18-32% tannins and is used for making a dark color leather.

Dutch ..... Een van de oudste typen van rode natuurlijke organische verfstof, die ook wordt gebruikt als substraatpigment, gemaakt van de lichaampjes van de vrouwelijke schildluis, Kermes vermillo Planch; voorheen onjuist aangemerkt als te zijn gemaakt van Coccus ilicis. Het is de belangrijkste kleurende component van karmijn. 
Spanish ..... Uno de los tipos más antiguos de colorante orgánico natural rojo, también utilizado como pigmento para laca, preparado a partir del cuerpo del insecto coco hembra, Kermes vermillo Planch; antigüamente incorrectamente explicado que se preparaba a partir de Coccus ilicis. Es el principal componente colorante del carmín.
