Note: Refers to Buddhist, particularly Tibetan, paintings portraying the endless process of birth, death, and rebirth (samsara) as a wheel. The many pictures on the wheel represent the conditions of samsara as well as the moral and mental factors that cause an individual to remain within samsara. The wheel is clutched by a demon monster, symbolizing death and impermanence. Bhavacakras are usually found on tankas or painted in the doorways of Tibetan temples. The earliest surviving example is a 6th-century fresco at Ajanta. The drawing of the bhavacakra was originally developed, supposedly by the Buddha himself, as a pedagogic device that could be used to teach the non-literate about Buddhist truths. The term, which is Sanskrit, translates to the 'wheel of existence.'

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar boeddhistische, vooral Tibetaanse schilderijen waarin het oneindige proces van geboorte, dood en wedergeboorte (samsara) wordt voorgesteld als een rad. De vele beelden op het rad stellen de fasen van de samsara voor alsook de morele en mentale factoren die maken dat een individu binnen de samsara blijft. Het rad is in de greep van een demonisch monster dat de dood en de tijdelijkheid symboliseert. Bhavacakra’s worden gewoonlijk aangetroffen op tanka’s of geschilderd in de deuropeningen van Tibetaanse tempels. Het vroegste bewaard gebleven exemplaar is een 6de-eeuws fresco in Ajanta. Das Rad ist von einem dämonischen Untier umklammert, das Tod und Unbeständigkeit synbolisiert. Bhava-Chakras finden sich gewöhnlich auf Thankas (Rollbildern) oder auf Türen von tibetischen Tempeln gemalt. Das älteste erhaltene Beispiel ist ein Fresko aus dem 6. Jahrhundert in Ajanta. Die Darstellung des Bhava-Chakra wurde ursprünglich, angeblich vom Buddha selbst , als pädagogisches Hilfsmittel entwickelt, das benutzt werden konnte, um des Lesens Unkundige über die buddhistische Wahrheit zu unterrichten. Der Begriff, der aus dem Sanskrit stammt, wird übersetzt als "Rad des Lebens". |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere a pinturas budistas, particularmente tibetanas, que retrataban el proceso interminable de nacimiento, muerte y renacimiento (samsara) como una rueda.
