Note: Naturally occurring mineral composed of barium carbonate usually found in hydrothermal veins associated with barite. It is mined in Germany, England, Scotland, Canada (Ontario) and the U.S. (Illinois, California, Arizona). Witherite is used in case-hardening steel and in refining sugar. It is also used as a pigment in the manufacture of paints, glazes, and synthetic marble.

Dutch ..... In de natuur voorkomend mineraal dat bestaat uit bariumcarbonaat en meestal wordt aangetroffen in de hydrothermale aders van bariet. Het wordt gewonnen in Duitsland, Engeland, Schotland, Canada (Ontario) en de VS (Illinois, Californië, Arizona). Witheriet wordt gebruikt voor het verharden van staal en bij het raffineren van suiker. Het wordt ook gebruikt als pigment bij de productie van verven, vernissen en synthetisch marmer.
