Note: A spectroscopic technique in which short pulses of terahertz radiation probe intermolecular interactions, allowing characterization of solid materials. The detection scheme is sensitive to the material's effect on both the amplitude and the phase of the terahertz radiation. In conservation science used as a nondestructive subsurface analysis of paintings which can reveal buried layer information such as underdrawings or highlight interfaces between layers in a stratigraphic buildup.

| Dutch ..... Een spectroscopische techniek waarbij intermoleculaire interacties met behulp van korte pulsen terahertzstraling worden onderzocht, zodat vaste stoffen kunnen worden gekarakteriseerd. Het detectieschema is gevoelig voor het effect van het materiaal op de amplitude en de fase van de terahertzstraling. Wordt bij conservering gebruikt als niet-destructieve analyse van wat zich onder het oppervlak van schilderijen bevindt. Zo kan informatie over verborgen lagen worden gevonden, zoals ondertekeningen, of kunnen scheidingsvlakken tussen lagen in een stratigrafisch schema zichtbaar worden gemaakt. |
