Note: Glazed pottery manufactured at Karatsu, Hizen Province, in the late 16th century. Early productions are typically untensils for everyday use, grainy in texture and painted with neutral feldspathic glaze. Later productions, after Korean potters were brought to Japan, were mostly fine tea sets with contrasting glazes, underglaze painting, and inlay designs.

| Dutch ..... Geglazuurd pottenbakkersgoed dat gedurende de late 16e eeuw gemaakt werd in Karatsu, in de provincie Hizen. Vroege werken uit deze traditie zijn hoofdzakelijk gereedschappen voor dagelijks gebruik, korrelig van textuur en beschilderd met een neutraal veldspaatglazuur. Latere producties, die gemaakt werden nadat Koreaanse pottenbakkers naar Japan waren gehaald, zijn hoofdzakelijk sierlijke theeserviezen met contrasterende glazuren, beschilderde onderglazuren en ingelegde ontwerpen. |
