Note: Organic chemical compounds capable of forming coordinate bonds with metals. Chelating agents are used to sequester or remove residual trace metal ions from materials to which they have attached. In a conservation context, uses of chelants include stabilizing of paper containing iron-gall ink, removal of iron residue from platinum prints; treatment of excavated copper objects.

| Dutch ..... Organische chemische verbindingen die in staat zijn om coördinerende bindingen aan met metalen te vormen. Chelaatvormers worden gebruikt om residusporen van metaalionen te sekwestreren uit materialen waaraan deze gebonden zijn. In een context van conservering worden chelaatvormers gebruikt voor de stabilisering van papier te dat ijzergallusinkt bevat, voor de verwijdering van ijzerresidu uit platinadrukken en voor de behandeling van opgegraven koperen voorwerpen. |
