Note: Originally referred to a distinctive type of arcade of shops in Italian cities, descendents of the ancient stoas. Now refers to covered shopping malls that architecturally resemble or were inspired by Italian gallerias. The term is also used to describe areas of a department store that are designed so as to appear to contain a number of separate shops.

| Dutch ..... Afkomstig van het Italiaanse woord 'galleria', dat oorspronkelijk verwees naar zuilengangen met winkels in Italiaanse steden, op basis van de antieke stoa's. Verwijst nu naar winkelcentra die qua architectuur lijken of geïnspireerd zijn op de Italiaanse galleria's. De term wordt ook gebruikt voor gebieden van een winkelcentrum die zo ontworpen zijn dat het lijkt alsof ze uit een aantal afzonderlijke winkels bestaan. |
