Note: Paintings or prints that depict beautiful women. This term, which literally means "pictures of beautiful women," was most likely coined in the Edo period (1615-1868) or the Meiji period (1868-1912). Before this period, these pictures may have been called "onna-e" or "bijin-e".

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 描繪美麗女子的繪畫或版畫,此詞彙字面意思為「美女圖畫」,很可能在江戶時代(西元1615至1868年)或明治時代(西元1868至1912年)才出現,在此之前,這類圖像可能稱為「女繪」或「美人繪」。 
Dutch ..... Schilderijen of afdrukken met een afbeelding van een mooie vrouw. De term betekent ook letterlijk ���afbeeldingen van mooie vrouwen' en is waarschijnlijk ontstaan in de Edo-periode (1615-1868) of de Meiji-periode (1868-1912). Vóór deze periodes noemde men dit soort afbeeldingen ���onna-e' of ���bijin-e'. 
German ..... Gemälde oder Druck mit der Darstellungen von weiblichen Schönheiten. Der Begriff, der wörtlich "Bilder von schönen Frauen" bedeutet, wurde mit hoher Wahscheinlichkeit in der Edo-Periode (1615-1868) oder der Meiji-Perode (1868-1912) geprägt. Vor dieser Zeit können diese Bilder "onna-e" oder "bijin-e" geheißen haben.
