Note: A mineral consisting of calcium oxalate dihydrate found as tiny white, glassy crystals. Originally found in mud at the bottom of the Weddell sea, Antarctica, which gave the mineral its name. Weddellite, and whewellite form on the surface of carbonaceous minerals in the presence of microbiological organisms such as lichens. |

Dutch ..... Een mineraal dat bestaat uit calciumoxalaatdihydraat en dat voorkomt als witte, glasachtige kristallen. Het werd voor het eerst gevonden in de modder op de bodem van de Weddellzee bij Antarctica, waarvan de naam is afgeleid. Weddelliet en whewelliet ontstaan aan het oppervlak van koolstofhoudende mineralen in aanwezigheid van microbiologische organismen zoals korstmossen. |
