Note: Species of medium-sized oak tree native to lowland wetlands in the southeastern United States, from Delaware and southern Illinois south to northern Florida and southeast Texas. The common name refers to the acorn almost completely enclosed by the cup or its scale. The Latin name comes from the shape of the leaves, which resemble a lyre.

Dutch ..... Middelgrote eik die inheems is op lager gelegen watergebieden in het zuidoosten van de Verenigde Staten, in het gebied dat zich uitstrekt van Delaware tot het zuiden van Illinois in het westen en het noorden van Florida en Zuidoost-Texas in het zuiden. De eikel wordt bijna helemaal bedekt door de dop. De Latijnse naam verwijst naar de vorm van de bladeren, die op een lier lijken.
