Note: Order of reptiles characterized by a premaxillary downgrowth replacing premaxillary teeth and four to five teeth enlarged at beginning of palatine tooth row. Dating from the Lower Triassic to present, including three families, about 20 genera, but only one surviving genus (Sphenodon) and two living species. |

Dutch ..... Orde van reptielen die worden gekenmerkt door premaxillair weefsel dat de premaxillaire tanden (voortanden) vervangt en vier tot vijf grotere tanden aan het begin van de rij boventanden. De eerste soorten ontstonden in het Onder-Trias. De orde omvat drie families en ongeveer twintig genera, waarvan er echter nog maar een bestaat (Sphenodon) met twee levende soorten. |
