Note: Subclass of primitive mammal including monotremes and their extinct relatives, characterized by being egg-laying, having hair, mammary glands without nipples, a pectoral girdle, and separate oviducts that open into a cloacal chamber that is shared with excretory ducts. Most of the animals in this group are extinct, known from fossils of the Cretaceous and Cenozoic periods. They are represented today by the monotremes, platypus and several species of echidna. |

Chinese (traditional) ..... 原始哺乳類動物的亞綱,包括單孔目動物以及其已滅絕的親屬。卵生,體有毛,具乳腺但無乳頭,具胸帶,且分離的輸卵管通至同為排泄管的泄殖腔。由白堊紀(Cretaceous)與新生代(Cenozoic)時期留存下來的化石得知,此一分類的大多數動物皆已滅絕,現今原獸亞綱的代表為單孔目動物、鴨嘴獸以及某些種類的針鼴。 |
Dutch ..... Onderklasse van primitieve zoogdieren, waaronder de vogelbekdieren en hun uitgestorven verwanten. De dieren leggen eieren, hebben haar, melkklieren zonder tepels, een schoudergordel en aparte eileiders die uitkomen in een cloaca (waarin ook de endeldarm en de urineleiders uitkomen). De meeste soorten uit deze groep zijn uitgestorven. Men heeft fossielen gevonden uit het Krijt en het Kaenozoïcum. De nog levende vertegenwoordigers zijn de vogelbekdieren en verschillende soorten mierenegels. |
