Note: Refers to an alloy used in the jewelry and watch trade during the 17th and 18th centuries, mostly in England; it was golden in color and was probably an alloy of copper and zinc that resembled brass. Some sources specifically describe it as a type of brass with a composition of three parts copper to one of zinc pickled in a diluted spirit of vitriol and then immersed in aquafortis before burnishing. Prince's metal was supposedly invented by Prince Rupert of the Rhine. |

Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een legering die in de 17de en 18de eeuw werd gebruikt door sieraden- en horlogemakers, hoofdzakelijk in Engeland; het goudkleurige prinsmetaal bestond vermoedelijk uit een legering van koper en zink die op messing leek. Sommige bronnen beschrijven het specifiek als een type messing bestaande uit drie delen koper en één deel zink dat in een bad met een verdund vitrioolmengsel werd gelegd, vervolgens in aquafortis werd ondergedompeld en ten slotte werd gepolijst. Prinsmetaal zou zijn ontdekt door prins Rupert van de Rijn. |
