Note: Refers to a decorative border for tapestries, first developed at the Gobelins tapestry manufactory in around 1714, probably with the Don Quixote series of tapestries designed by Coypel. It is characterized by simulating a thick, rich damask border that surrounds a relatively small scene. The border is typically decorated with trompe l'oeile garlands of ribbons, flowers, animals, ropes, or fruit.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een sierrand voor wandtapijten, die voor het eerst rond 1714 werd ontwikkeld in de wandtapijtenfabriek Gobelins, waarschijnlijk voor de door Coypel ontwerpen reeks Don Quichotte-wandtapijten. Alentours wordt gekenmerkt door het simuleren van een brede, overdadige damastrand rond een verhoudingsgewijs klein tafereel. De rand is doorgaans gedecoreerd met trompe l'oeuil-festoenen met linten, bloemen, dieren, koorden of vruchten. 
Spanish ..... Referido a ribetes decorativos para tapices, primeramente desarrollados en la tapicería de manufactura Gobelins alrededor de 1714, probablemente con la serie de tapices de Don Quijote diseñadas por Coypel. Se caracterizan por simular un ribete delgado y rico de damasco que rodean una relativamente pequeña escena. El ribete está generalmente decorado con trompe l'oeile, guirnalda de cintas, flores, animales, cuerdas o fruta.
