Note: Refers to a religious order following the Rule of St. Augustine that was founded by the medieval mystic St. Bridget of Sweden (died 1373). After the death of her husband, Bridget dedicated her life to prayer and experienced visions, one of which was to found the Order of the Most Holy Savior. Shortly after Bridget's death, her daughter, St. Catherine of Sweden, became the first abbess of the original monastery in Vadstena, Sweden. Other monasteries followed, each with no more than 60 nuns. Attached to each was a parallel community of monks who shared the same liturgical life under the governing of the abbess. Brigittine contributions to Scandinavian culture include one of the first printing presses, located at Vadstena Abbey. The order, emphasizing humility, simplicity and contemplation, flourished until the Reformation and was banished from Sweden in 1595. After this time there were no more Brigittine monks but four autonomous houses of nuns survived: one in England, another in Bavaria, and two in Holland. Elisabeth Hesselblad founded a new branch of the old order in 1911 and went on to revive the order by founding houses in Sweden, Italy, England, India, Switzerland, and the United States. Although the order has an ancient history, it is modern in its efforts regarding monastic revival and ecumenical concerns.

| Dutch ..... Een religieuze orde volgens de kloosterregel van de Heilige Augustinus die werd gesticht door de middeleeuwse mystica Sint Brigitta van Zweden (overleden in 1373). Na de dood van haar echtgenoot wijdde Brigitta haar leven aan het gebed en kreeg zij visioenen, in een waarvan zij opdracht kreeg de Orde van de Allerheiligste Verlosser te stichten. Kort na Brigitta’s dood werd haar dochter, Sint Catharina van Zweden, de eerste abdis van het oorspronkelijke klooster in Vadstena (Zweden). Andere kloosters volgden, elk met niet meer dan zestig nonnen. Aan elk klooster was een parallelle gemeenschap van monniken verbonden, die hetzelfde liturgische leven leidden onder het bestuur van de abdis. Tot de bijdragen van de brigittinessen aan de Scandinavische cultuur behoort een van de eerste drukpersen, gebouwd in de abdij van Vadstena. De orde, die de nadruk legde op nederigheid, eenvoud en contemplatie, bloeide tot de Reformatie en werd in Zweden verboden in 1595. Daarna waren er geen brigittenmonniken meer, al zijn er wel vier autonome nonnenkloosters blijven bestaan: één in Engeland, één in Beieren en twee in de Nederlanden. | Spanish ..... Se refiere a una orden religiosa que sigue la Regla de San Augustín que fue fundado por la mística medieval Santa Brígida de Suecia (murió en 1373). Después de la muerte de su marido, Brígida dedicó su vida a la oración y experimentó visiones una de las cuales fue fundar la Orden del más Santo Salvador. Poco tiempo después de la muerte de Brígida, su hija, Santa Catalina de Suecia, se convirtió en la primera abadesa del monasterio original en Vadstena, Suecia. Se establecieron otros monasterios, cada uno sin más de 60 monjas. Conectado a cada uno estaba una comunidad paralela de monjes que compartían la misma vida litúrgica bajo el gobierno de la abadesa. Las contribuciones de Brígida a la cultura escandinava incluyen una de las primeras prensas de impresión, localizada en la Abadía de Vadstena. La orden da énfasis a la humildad, simplicidad y contemplación y floreció hasta la Reforma y fue desterrada de Suecia en 1595.
