Note: Refers to a major Christian festival commemorating Christ's ascension into heaven. The festival has been observed 40 days (i.e. the fifth Thursday) after Easter in both the Eastern and Western churches since the 4th century. Ascension Day celebrates the kingship of Christ, Christ's entry into heaven with human nature glorified, and the completion of the work of the salvation of believers in Christ (through the final redemptive act of the Ascension). In the Middle Ages the festival included a procession to remember Christ's journey to the Mount of Olives, the traditional site of the Ascension. Another early practice was to raise a crucifix or a statue of the risen Christ through an opening in the church roof; this was sometimes accompanied by a figure of the devil made to descend at the same time. A distinctive feature of the Western liturgy of Ascension Day is the extinguishing of the Paschal candle after the Gospel has been read. The Paschal candle, which is first lit on Easter, is extinguished as a symbol of Christ's leaving the earth.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 為基督教重要的節慶，紀念耶穌升天。自四世紀開始，東西方教堂在復活節之後的第40天（如第5個星期四）慶祝該節日。升天節是慶祝耶穌獲天主之名，耶穌著人民的榮耀進入天國，完成基督信徒的救贖（藉由耶穌升天的最後救贖行為）。中世紀時慶祝活動包含遊行，以紀念耶穌走到橄欖山（傳說中耶穌升天的地點）的這段路程。另一個活動就是升起十字架或耶穌升天雕像，穿過教堂屋頂的開口；有時候亦會搭配下墜的惡魔形像以象徵墮落。西方升天節另一個顯著的特點，是在唱誦福音之後吹熄五傷蠟。五傷蠟在復活節點燃，它的熄滅象徵耶穌離開人世進入天國。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een belangrijk christelijk feest dat de tenhemelopneming van Christus gedenkt. Het feest wordt sinds de 4de eeuw veertig dagen (de vijfde donderdag) na Pasen gevierd door zowel oosterse als westerse kerken. Hemelvaartsdag gedenkt het koningschap van Christus, de tenhemelopneming van Christus ter verheerlijking van de menselijke natuur en de voltooiing van de verlossing van hen die in Christus geloven (de Hemelvaart is de laatste verlossende handeling). In de middeleeuwen werd er in het kader van het feest een processie gehouden om de tocht van Christus naar de Olijfberg te gedenken, volgens de traditie de plaats van de Hemelvaart. Een ander oud gebruik was het optillen van een kruisbeeld of een beeld van de verrezen Christus door een opening in het dak van de kerk. Soms ging dit gepaard met een duivelsfiguur die tegelijkertijd afdaalde. Een onderscheidend kenmerk van de westerse liturgie van Hemelvaartsdag is het doven van de paaskaars na de lezing van het evangelie. De paaskaars wordt voor het eerst ontstoken met Pasen en wordt gedoofd als symbool voor het feit dat Christus de aarde verlaat. |
