Note: Membranophones sounded by friction, accomplished directly by rubbing the drumhead with the hand or a piece of leather or cloth, or by means of a cord or stick which passes back and forth through one or two holes in the drumhead. In some types, the drumhead is vibrated indirectly by friction on a cord or stick in contact with, but not piercing, the drumhead.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 利用摩擦發聲的膜鳴樂器，可直接利用手、一塊皮革或布料摩擦鼓面發聲，也可藉由繩索或棍棒，來回穿梭鼓面上一或兩個洞發聲。某些種類則是利用繩索或棒子的摩擦，與鼓面產生間接振動，而非直接戳刺鼓面發聲。 |
| Dutch ..... Trommen die bespeeld worden door wrijving van het trommelvel met de hand, een stuk leer of stof, of door een koord of stok die door een gat in het trommelvel word getrokken. Bij sommige types wordt dit bereikt door het trommelvel te wrijven, maar niet te doorboren. |
| German ..... Membranofon, das durch Reibung zum Klingen gebracht wird, und zwar direkt durch Reiben des Fells mit der Hand oder einem Stück Leder oder Stoff oder mittels einer Schnur oder eines Stabes, die zwischen einem oder zwei Löchern im Fell bewegt werden. Bei manchen Ausführungen wird das Fell indirekt in Schwingung versetzt durch Reiben von Schnüren oder Stäben, die Kontakt mit dem Fell haben, aber es nicht durchdringen. |
| Spanish ..... Membranófonos que suenan por fricción, lo que se logra frotando directamente el parche con la mano o con un trozo de cuero o paño, o por medio de un cordel o baqueta que se desliza hacia delante y atrás a través de uno o dos agujeros en el parche. En algunos ejemplares, el parche se hace vibrar indirectamente por fricción en un cordel o baqueta en contacto con él, pero que no lo perfora. |
