Note: Refers to a period, culture, and style that developed first in Attica, but was eventually found throughout Greece, in Italy, and in the Levant. It is generally held to have occurred from around 900 BCE to around 700 BCE, though some classification schemes omit the Protogeometric period and begin the Geometric period at 1100 BCE. In pottery it is characterized by dark-on-light decorations arranged in regularly spaced horizontal bands, and differs from Protogeometric style in that the designs are busier and the bands cover nearly the entire vessel. Designs include zigzags, triangles, meanders, swastikas, and distinctive stylized, angular human and animal figures. Similar designs and figural types were used in sculpture and other arts.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een periode en stijl van Griekse kunst en cultuur die zich eerst ontwikkelde in Attica maar uiteindelijk is aangetroffen in heel Griekenland, in Italië en in de Levant. Over het algemeen wordt de periode gedateerd van circa 900 tot circa 700 v. Chr., hoewel sommige classificatiesystemen de protogeometrische periode weglaten en de geometrische laten aanvangen in 1100 v. Chr. Het aardewerk wordt gekenmerkt door donker-op-lichte decoraties, geordend in regelmatig afgebakende horizontale banden, en verschilt van de protogeometrische stijl doordat de ontwerpen drukker zijn, met banden die vrijwel het gehele vat bedekken. De ontwerpen bestaan uit keperbanden, driehoeken, meanders, swastika’s en kenmerkende gestileerde, hoekige menselijke en dierlijke figuren. Soortgelijke ontwerpen en figuursoorten werden gebruikt in de beeldhouwkunst en andere kunstvormen. |
| French ..... Fait référence à une période, une culture et un style qui se sont d’abord développés en Attique, puis dans toute la Grèce, en Italie et au Levant. Il est généralement admis que cette période s’étend d’environ 900 à 700 avant notre ère, bien que certains systèmes de classification omettent la période protogéométrique et ouvrent la période géométrique à 1100 avant notre ère. Se refiere a un período y estilo de arte y cultura griego que se desarrolló primero en Ática, pero que eventualmente fue encontrado a lo largo de toda Grecia, en Italia y en el Levante. Generalmente se sostiene que existió desde alrededor del 900 a.C a alrededor del 700 a.C, aunque algunos esquemas de la clasificación omiten el período Protogeométrico y empiezan en el período Geométrico en 1100 a.C. En cerámica se caracteriza por decoraciones negras sobre claro colocadas en bandas horizontales regularmente espaciadas y se diferencia del estilo Protogeométrico en que los diseños están más llenos y las bandas cubren casi el vaso completo. Los diseños incluyen zigzages, triángulos, meandros, esvásticas y características figuras animales y humanas angulares estilizadas. Se usaron diseños similares y tipos de figuras en escultura y otras artes. |
