Note: A compound of shellac, rosin, brick- and glass dust, often with other additives that is used to hold diamonds or other gemstones in place as they are cut. It softens when heat is applied but has a hard consistency when cooled. The composition is intended to lessen shock waves that might cause a stone to be shattered during a cleaving blow. |

Dutch ..... Een mengsel dat bovenaan in de stokken van de klover en de snijder wordt gebracht om het te bewerken steentje vast te zetten. Dit cement heeft de eigenschap dat het, bij zachte verwarming in een gasvlam, spoedig week wordt en bij afkoeling weer snel verhardt. Het cement kan samengesteld zijn op verschillende wijzen, doch de voornaamste bestanddelen zijn meestal schellak, hars, zand en gemalen glas. |
