Note: Large condor native to South America, having a wingspan of over 10 feet; only living member of the Vultur genus. The exact taxonomic placement of the Andean condor and the other 6 species of New World vultures remains. The New World and Old World vultures evolved from different ancestors in different parts of the world and are not closely related.

| Dutch ..... Grote condor, inheems in Zuid-Amerika, met een vleugelspanwijdte van meer dan drie meter; de enige levende soort van het genus Vultur. De precieze taxonomische plaatsing van de Andescondor en de overige zes soorten gieren van de Nieuwe Wereld is nog onduidelijk. De gieren van de Nieuwe Wereld en de Oude Wereld zijn uit verschillende voorouders in verschillende delen van de wereld geëvolueerd en zijn niet nauw aan elkaar verwant. |
