Note: The religion of the autonomous, self-governing churches that preserve ancient eastern Christian theological, liturgical, and devotional traditions that depend originally on the Eastern Empire at Constantinople, but today Eastern Catholic churches remain in full communion with the Pope and the western church centered in Rome. Differences include that the Eastern Catholic church allows married clergy and the immediate admission of baptized infants to the sacraments of the Eucharist and Confirmation, which happen later in childhood within the western church.

De religie van de autonome, zelfbesturende kerken die de oude oostelijke christelijke theologische, liturgische en godsdienstige tradities hebben behouden, die afkomstig zijn van het Byzantijnse Rijk in Constantinopel. De tegenwoordige oosters-katholieke kerken staan in contact met de paus en de westerse kerk die zijn centrum in Rome heeft. Verschillen met de westerse kerk zijn dat in de oosters-katholieke kerken de geestelijken mogen trouwen en dat gedoopte baby's meteen toegang hebben tot de sacramenten van de communie en het vormsel, die in de westerse kerk later in de jeugd plaatsvinden. |
