Note: Wood from the species Brya ebenus native to Central America and the Caribbean islands. It comes from the black or rich brown heartwood. It is brittle, very heavy, exceedingly hard, having a fine uniform texture, and capable of receiving a high polish. It is used for inlays, brush backs, parquet, and musical instruments. Not a true rosewood.

Dutch ..... Hout van de soort Brya ebenus die inheems is in Midden-Amerika en de Caribische eilanden. Het komt van zwart of warm bruin kernhout. Het materiaal is bros, zeer zwaar, uitermate hard, heeft een fijne uniforme textuur en kan erg glanzend worden gemaakt. Het wordt gebruikt voor inlegwerk, de rug van borstels, parket en muziekinstrumenten. Het is niet echt palissanderhout.
