Note: Refers to imitations of hand-made lace created by embroidering designs in cotton on a silk ground; the silk is then burned away with chlorine or caustic soda. Imitation lace produced by this method first appeared in the late 19th century. Chemical lace often appears similar to Venetian lace, but is distinguished because it lacks the buttonhole stitches of hand-made lace.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar imitaties van handgemaakte kant die zijn gemaakt door het borduren van ontwerpen van katoen op een zijden ondergrond. De zijde wordt vervolgens weggebrand met chloor of natriumhydroxide. Imitatiekant die volgens deze methode werd geproduceerd, dook voor het eerst op in de late 19de eeuw. Etskant lijkt vaak erg op Venetiaanse kant, maar kan worden onderscheiden doordat de knoopsgatsteken van handgemaakte kant ontbreken. |
| German ..... Bezeichnet die Imitation von handgewirkter Spitze, die durch Baumwollstickereimuster auf Seidengrund entstehen; die Seide wird am Schluss durch Chlor oder Natronlauge weggeätzt. Auf diese Art hergestellte Spitzen-Imitationen erschienen erstmals im späten 19. Jahrhundert. Luftspitze ähnelt oft der Venezianischen Spitze, aber sie unterscheidet sich durch das Fehlen des Knopflochstiches, der bei handgefertigten Spitzen vorhanden ist. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere a imitaciones de encaje hechos a mano creados por medio de diseños bordados en un fondo de algodón o seda; la seda es luego consumida con cloro o soda cáustica. Imitaciones de encaje producido por este método apareció primeramente a fines del siglo XIX. El encaje químico frecuentemente es similar al encaje veneciano, pero se distingue por la ausencia de puntadas de ojal del encaje hecho a mano.
