Note: Convex, dark-tinted glasses used as mirrors to reflect landscapes or objects in landscape in reduced size, muted colors, and merged detail, abstracting the subject from its surroundings, simplifying it, and presenting it in terms of light and shade. It was popular in the 17th and 18th centuries with artists, travelers, and those who simply wished to view landscapes in a different way. They were either handheld, or larger ones were mounted beside the windows of carriages. They were said to have been used by the painter Claude Lorrain, who produced similar effects in his landscapes, hence the name.

Dutch ..... Bolle, donker getinte glazen die als spiegels werden gebruikt om landschappen of onderdelen van landschappen verkleind, in gedempte kleuren of met samengevoegde details weer te geven, of om voorwerpen van hun omgeving af te zonderen, ze te vereenvoudigen en weer te geven in de vorm van licht en donker. Ze waren in de 17de en 18de eeuw populair onder kunstenaars, reizigers en hen die het landschap eenvoudigweg wel eens met een andere blik wilden zien. Ze werden ofwel in de hand gehouden, ofwel in grotere vorm bevestigd naast de vensters van koetsen. Ze zouden zijn gebruikt door de schilder Claude Lorrain, die vergelijkbare effecten weergaf in zijn landschappen, vandaar de naam. 
German ..... Konvexes, dunkel gefärbtes Glas, das als Spiegel verwendet wird, um Landschaften oder Objekte in der Landschaft in verminderter Größe, gedeckten Farben und verschmolzenen Details zu spiegeln sowie den Gegenstand von seiner Umgebung zu abstrahieren, ihn zu vereinfachen und ihn in Form von Licht und Schatten zu zeigen. Im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert war es bei Künstlern, Reisenden und Personen beliebt, die die Landschaft auf eine andere Art zu betrachten wünschten. Es war tragbar, größere wurden neben dem Fenster einer Kutsche befestigt. Man sagt, sie wurden von dem Maler Claude Lorrain verwendet, der ähnliche Effekte in seinen Landschaftsbildern erzeugte; daher der Name. 
Spanish ..... Espejos convexos y teñidos oscuros usados como espejos para reflejar paisajes u objetos en paisajes en tamaño reducido, cambio de colores, y detalles fusionados, abstraiendo el sueto desde sus contornos, simplificandolo, y presentándolo en términos de luz y sombra. Fue popular en el siglo XVII y XVIII con artistas como viajeros, y aquellos que simplemente deseaban ver paisjaes en una forma diferente. Ellos eran manuales, o algunos más grandes eran montados junto a las ventanas de los carros. Se decia que había sido usado por el pintor Claudio Lorena, que producia efectos similares en sus paisajes, de ahí el nombre.
