Note: Homogenous sandstone with a cement or matrix of calcium carbonate which binds together the quartz particles of which sandstone is mainly composed. It splits almost equally well in both directions and is easily worked but disintegrates upon exposure. Pure calcareous sandstone is white or cream in color; colors are due to impurities: yellow and red colors are due to the presence of iron oxides; green from glauconite; and black from manganese dioxide.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種均質砂岩，主要構成砂岩的石英粒子由碳酸鈣黏結聚合在一起。斷裂時幾乎均勻地朝兩邊裂開，易於加工處理，然而暴露在空氣中會崩解。質純的鈣質砂岩呈白色或米色，若呈現其他顏色是因含有其他雜質：含氧化鐵者呈黃色和紅色，含海綠石（glauconite）者呈綠色，含二氧化錳者則呈黑色。 |
| Dutch ..... Homogene zandsteen met een cement of matrix van calciumcarbonaat dat de kwartsdeeltjes bindt waaruit zandsteen hoofdzakelijk bestaat. Deze zandsteen splijt in beide richtingen vrijwel even goed, is gemakkelijk te bewerken, maar desintegreert bij blootstelling. Zuivere kalkhoudende zandsteen is wit of crème van kleur. Andere kleuren zijn het gevolg van onzuiverheden: de aanwezigheid van ijzeroxiden veroorzaakt gele en rode kleuren, glauconiet zorgt voor een groene kleur en zwart is het gevolg van de aanwezigheid van mangaandioxide. |
| Spanish ..... Arenisca homogénea con un cemento o matriz de carbonato de calcio que une las partículas de cuarzo, que son el principal elemento de la arenisca. Se divide casi con la misma facilidad en ambas direcciones y es fácil de trabajar, pero se desintegra al exponerse a la atmósfera. La arenisca calcárea pura es blanca o crema, pero puede colorearse por las impurezas: los colores amarillo y rojo se deben a la presencia de óxidos de hierro, el verde a la glauconita y el negro al dióxido de manganeso.
