Note: A neologism, the meaning of which is changing over time. Currently, it typically refers to assemblages of concepts represented by terms and names (called tags) that are compiled through social tagging. They are not necessarily the result of a collaborative effort, but are usually the compilation of personal tagging of content by individuals. Folksonomies are typically without hierarchical structure, generally have no preferred term for a concept, and may not even cluster synonyms. They are not considered authoritative because they are not compiled by experts. Furthermore, they are by definition not applied to documents by professional indexers. Given that it is impossible for the large and varied community of Internet creators and users to independently add metadata in a consistent manner, folksonomies are generally characterized by non-standard, idiosyncratic tagging. Although they do not support searching and other types of browsing as well as tags from controlled vocabularies applied by professionals, folksonomies are useful in certain situations, including where controlled tagging is not possible or where individuals prefer to tag content for their own use. The term formerly referred to the internet-based information retrieval methodologies involved rather than the resulting terminology or tagging.

Informatieverzamelmethodieken op internetbasis, bestaande uit gezamenlijk gegenereerde labels voor het categoriseren van webcontent, met inbegrip van webpagina's, weblinks en online-foto's. Het verschil met een taxonomie is dat de schrijvers van een folksonomie meestal incidentele contentgebruikers zijn en geen professionele indexontwikkelaars die standaardprotocollen en gestandaardiseerde gereguleerde terminologie hanteren; folksonomieën maken geen deel uit van onderliggende World Wide Web-protocollen. Aangezien het binnen een grote gevarieerde gemeenschap van internetbouwers en -gebruikers onmogelijk is om op consequente en onafhankelijke wijze metadata toe te voegen, worden folksonomieën meestal gekenmerkt door een individueel bepaalde, niet standaardconforme wijze van tagging, hetgeen afbreuk doet aan de efficiëntie en nauwkeurigheid bij het ophalen van informatie. |

Zum gegenwärtigen Zeitpunkt bezieht er sich zumeist auf Ideen-Sammlungen, die durch Bezeichnungen und Namen (genannt Tags) repräsentiert und mit Hilfe des Social Tagging zusammengestellt werden. Sie sind nicht notwendigerweise das Ergebnis einer kollaborativen Arbeit, bestehen aber in der Regel als Sammlung persönlicher Verschlagwortung von individuellen Inhalten. Angesichts der Unmöglichkeit für die große und vielfältige Gemeinde der Internetkreativen und Nutzer, unabhängig voneinander in konsistenter Weise Metadaten hinzuzufügen, zeichnen sich Folksonomien im Allgemeinen durch nicht-standardisierte, eigensinnige Verschlagwortungen aus. Obwohl sie keine Suchroutinen oder andere Formen des Browsings unterstützen, genausowenig wie Tags aus einem von Experten kontrollierten Wörterverzeichnis, sind Folksonomien in bestimmten Situationen hilfreich, unter anderem dann, wenn kontrollierte Verschlagwortung nicht möglich ist oder wenn Einzelne es vorziehen, Inhalte für ihren eigenen Gebrauch zu taggen. Der Begriff bezeichnete früher die Methoden der internetbasierten Informationsgewinnung, nicht die sich daraus ergebende Terminologie oder Verschlagwortung. |
