Note: Representations or copies of an object that are larger or smaller than the actual size of the object being represented, and manufactured precisely according to relative size. Typically, the scale model is smaller than the original and used for illustrating the object, for a toy or collectible, or as a guide to constructing it in full size. Scale models may be one- or two-dimensional. Scale models are generally built according to a standard scale for the particular product; for example, model trains may be HO scale (1:87 scale), model ships may be 1:500 scale, and dollhouse furniture may be 1:12 scale.

| Dutch ..... Weergaven of kopieën van een object die groter of kleiner zijn dan de feitelijke grootte van het weer te geven object, en waar bij de vervaardiging de exacte onderlinge verhoudingen zijn gehandhaafd. Een schaalmodel is meestal kleiner dan het origineel en wordt gebruikt ter illustratie van het object, als speelgoed of verzamelobject, of als hulpmiddel bij het construeren van het object op volledige grootte. Schaalmodellen kunnen één- of tweedimensionaal zijn. Schaalmodellen worden meestal vervaardigd op basis van een standaardschaal voor het betreffende product. Zo bestaat voor modeltreinen de populaire H0-schaal (schaal 1:87), voor scheepsmodellen is een schaal van 1:500 gangbaar en bij meubilair voor een poppenhuis een schaal van 1:12. |
