Note: Carved stones that have been found at ancient and more recent North American sites. They were apparently often part of an atlatl, or spear-thrower; it is believed that a bannerstone was tied to the center of thin, willowy atlatl shafts, thus increasing the spear-thrower's flexibility and causing an efficient, whip-like action. Bannerstones were often carefully carved of decorative stone, and were probably considered sumptuary implements and symbols of status. Some bannerstones seem to have been mounted on staffs or poles to serve primarily as symbols of rank.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 經過雕刻的石頭,出土自古代和較近代的北美洲文明遺址。明顯地,旗石多作為阿特拉托(atlatl)擲矛桿的一部分;一般認為旗石是被綁在細軟如柳條的阿特拉托擲具桿的中央,有助於增加擲具的彈性,且能在投擲時產生猶如鞭笞般的有力動作。旗石通常是以具裝飾性的石頭仔細雕刻而成,可能是身分的象徵,僅有特定人員能夠使用。有些旗石可能曾被鑲嵌在權杖或桿柱上,主要作為階級地位的象徵。 
Dutch ..... Gebeeldhouwde stenen die worden aangetroffen op oude Noord-Amerikaanse vindplaatsen en waarschijnlijk onderdeel zijn geweest van een atlatl of speerwerper. Gedacht wordt dat een bannerstone aan het midden van dunne, wilgachtige schachten van de atlatl werd gebonden, waardoor de buigzaamheid van de speerwerper werd vergroot en een doelmatige, zwiepende beweging mogelijk werd. Bannerstones werden vaak zorgvuldig gehouwen uit decoratieve stenen en waarschijnlijk beschouwd als luxeartikelen en statussymbolen. 
German ..... Bearbeiteter Stein​​, der an alten und neueren nordamerikanischen Standorten gefunden wurden. Er war offenbar Teil eines Atlatl oder einer Speerschleuder; man nimmt an, dass ein Bannerstone im Zentrum von dünnen, gertenartigen Atlatls befestigt wurde, um die Flexibilität der Speerschleuder zu erhöhen und eine effiziente, peitschenartige Bewegung zu erzeugen. Bannerstones wurden oft sorgfältig aus dekorativem Stein erstellt und wahrscheinlich als Luxusgegenstand und Statussymbol verwendet. Einige Bannerstones wurden hauptsächlich als Statussymbole auf Stäben oder Stangen montiert.
