Note: Emblems or devices with text added to the end of some manuscripts and incunabula by the author or scribe to provide the title of the work and the name or initials of its author or scribe. For similar closing statements in later printed books, use "colophons." Explicits were eventually incorporated into or completely replaced by the colophon, which included information about the printer, printing materials, and typeface, and, often, the printer's emblem.

| Dutch ..... Wordt gebruikt voor mededelingen aan het slot van (delen van) manuscripten of oude gedrukte werken, waaruit blijkt dat het boek af is. Soms wordt ook informatie verstrekt omtrent de productie van het boek, zoals de naam van de auteur en de plaats waar en het tijdstip waarop het is gedrukt. Gebruik 'colofons' voor mededelingen aan het slot van later gedrukte boeken. |

Emblem oder Motto mit Text, das vom Autor oder Schreiber ans Ende einiger Manuskripte oder Inkunabeln hinzugefügt wurde, um den Titel des Werks und Namen oder Initialen seines Autors oder Schreibers anzugeben. Für ähnliche, schließende Angaben in später gedruckten Büchern, siehe "Kolophon". Das Explicit wurde schließlich dem Kolophon hinzugefügt oder vollständig von diesem ersetzt, welches Angaben über den Drucker, das Druckmaterial und die Type und häufig auch das Zeichen des Druckers enthielt. |
