Note: Two-storied main gates of a Zen temple complexes; literally "enlightenment gate," "mountain gate," or "triple gate." The size of the gate could be equated with the status of the temple. These gates can contain three passages and are seen also as symbolic barriers between the profane and the sacred.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Hoofdpoort van zenboeddhistische tempels, bestaande uit twee verdiepingen. Letterlijk betekent de term ���verlichtingspoort', ���bergpoort' of ���drievoudige poort'. De afmetingen van de poort weerspiegelen de status van de tempel. De poorten kunnen drie doorgangen bevatten. Ze worden gezien als de symbolische scheiding tussen het wereldlijke en het heilige.
