Note: Chairs with a low seat and a tall sloping back, used as a prayer seat or stool; the form was seen in the 17th century, but became particularly popular during the Gothic Revival of the 19th century. For kneelers of similar form having a support for elbows and bookshelf, but not in the form of a chair, use "prie-dieus (benches)." For chairs with a very similar design, particularly those dating to the 18th century, but intended for use by females watching card games, use "voyeuses à genoux." Prie-dieu chairs may be made of humble materials, such as a wooden frame with a rattan seat-kneeler, or they may be upholstered; they may include a shelf for prayer books. They are found in private chambers and occasionally in churches. If they are part of a set, it is usually a bedroom set. Voyeuses à genoux are always upholstered, and are generally part of a larger set along with voyeuses intended for males to sit astride while watching card games.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 具低椅座與高而傾斜之椅背的椅子，做為禱告椅或凳；此形式見於十七世紀，但在十九世紀的哥德復興式期間變得特別流行。具有托肘處與書架的類似跪臺，但並非為椅子形式者，稱「祈禱用矮臺（長凳）」。具有非常類似之設計的椅子，特別是屬於十八世紀，但是供觀看牌局的女性使用者，稱為「膝式觀牌椅」。禱告椅可能是以粗糙的材料所製，例如木框加上藤莖跪臺椅座，或有可能裝上填塞料；可能包括放置祈禱書的架子。見於私人寢室，偶爾出現在教堂中。若為一整套的部份，通常是寢室套組。膝式觀牌椅則一定裝有填塞料，且通常與供男性跨坐觀看牌局的觀牌椅一起，屬於較大型套組的部份。 |
| German ..... Stuhl mit niedriger Sitzfläche und schräger Rückenlehne, der als Betstuhl oder Hocker genutzt wird; die Form trat im 17. Jahrhundert auf, wurde jedoch insbesondere im Zuge der Wiederbelebung des gotischen Stils im 19. Jahrhundert populär. Für eine Kniebank in ähnlicher Gestalt, die über eine Stütze für die Ellenbogen und ein Bücherbrett verfügt, aber nicht die Form eines Stuhles hat, siehe „Betstuhl (Bank)“. Für einen Stuhl in annähernd identischer Form, insbesondere ein solcher, der ins 18. Jahrhundert datiert, jedoch für Frauen zum Zuschauen bei einem Kartenspiel konstruiert war, siehe „Voyeuse à genoux“. Der Prie-Dieu kann aus einfachen Materialien gefertigt sein, wie beispielsweise einem Holzgestell mit Rattan-Knie-Sitz, oder er kann gepolstert sein; er kann auch über eine Ablage für Gebetbücher verfügen. Er tritt in privaten Kammern und gelegentlich in Kirchen auf. Ist er Teil einer Garnitur, handelt es sich gemeinhin um eine Schlafzimmergarnitur. Die Voyeuse à genoux ist immer gepolstert und in der Regel zusammen mit der für Männer konzipierten Voyeuse zum Rittlingssitzen während des Zuschauens bei einem Kartenspiel Teil einer umfangreicheren Möbelgarnitur. |
