Since Florentine banks were international enterprises, the Florentine florin was the dominant currency of Western Europe for large-scale transactions for many years.

| Dutch ..... Historische munteenheid in de Italiaanse stad Florence tussen 1252 en 1533, gerepresenteerd door een gouden munt. Deze bestond uit 72 grein zuiver (fijn) goud (3,5 gram). Omdat Florentijnse banken internationale ondernemingen waren, was de Florentijnse florijn gedurende vele jaren de meest gebruikte munteenheid in West-Europa voor grootschalige transacties.
