Note: Mythical birds resembling an eagle but having red and gold plumage. The phoenix was said to live for hundreds of years, then it would burn itself in a funeral pyre or temple sacrifice, only to rise from the ashes with renewed youth. Variations of the myth place the birds in the deserts of Arabia or in ancient Egypt.

| Dutch ..... Mythische vogels die op adelaars lijken, maar dan met rode en goudkleurige veren. De feniks zou honderden jaren oud worden en zichzelf ten slotte op een brandstapel of in een tempeloffer verbranden, om daarna met nieuwe jeugdigheid uit de as te herrijzen. Verschillende varianten van deze mythe plaatsen de vogel in de woestijn van Arabië of het oude Egypte. |
