Note: Refers to a variety of agate containing brown or black moss- or tree-like dendritic forms. It is typically a grayish to milky-white agate, which is a variety of the silica mineral quartz. It contains opaque, dark-colored inclusions with feathery, branching forms that resemble ferns, moss, or other vegetation but that are in fact of inorganic origin, mainly manganese and iron oxides. Most examples of moss agate are found as fragments of weathered from volcanic rocks from India, Brazil, Uruguay, central Europe, and the western United States. The stone has historically been used for ornamental purposes, often cut in flat or rounded forms, and sometimes dyed to improve its color.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指含棕色或黑色、似苔蘚或似樹突狀物的瑪瑙，通常呈微灰色至牛奶白是一種矽礦石英。蘚紋瑪瑙帶有不透明或暗色內含物，形式呈羽狀分支，類似蕨類、苔蘚或其它植被，但實際上卻源於無機成因，主要為錳及鐵的氧化物。大部分蘚紋瑪瑙來自於印度、巴西、烏拉圭、歐洲中部及美國西部之火山岩風化碎片。過去用在裝飾上，通常切成平坦或圓形形式，有時會染色來改善其色澤。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een soort agaat met bruine of zwarte mos- of boomachtige tentakelvormen. Meestal heeft het agaat een grijze tot melkwitte kleur, en het betreft dan een vorm van het mineraalkwarts silica. Mosagaat bevat opake, donkere insluitsels met veerachtige, zich vertakkende vormen die doen denken aan varens, mossen of andere vormen van vegetatie. Ze zijn evenwel van anorganische oorsprong, hoofdzakelijk mangaan en ijzeroxiden. Mosagaat wordt meestal aangetroffen als verweerde fragmenten van vulkanisch gesteente, in India, Brazilië, Uruguay, Midden-Europa en het westen van de Verenigde Staten. De steen werd van oudsher gebruikt voor decoratieve doeleinden, en is dan vaak vlak of afgerond geslepen, en soms ook gekleurd om de kleur te versterken. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere a una variedad de ágata que contiene formas dendríticas marrones o negras en forma de musgo o de árbol. Es típicamente un ágata grisásea a blanca lechosa, variedad de cuarzo de sílice mineral. Contiene inclusiones opacas de color oscuro con formas de plumas o ramas que recuerdan helechos, musgo u otra forma vegetal, pero que son de hecho óxidos de origen inorgánico, fundamentalmente de manganeso y hierro. La mayor parte de los ejemplares del ágata de musgo se encuentran como fragmentos de rocas volcánicas sometidas al efecto de la atmósfera en India, Brasil, Uruguay, Europa Central y el oeste de Estados Unidos. Ha sido utilizada históricamente con propósitos ornamentales, a menudo cortada plana o redonda, y a veces teñida para aumentar su color.
