Te gebruiken voor elementen die in zeer kleine hoeveelheden voorkomen in mineralen; ze zijn niet van essentieel belang voor de samenstelling maar worden toch in hun structuur aangetroffen of geabsorbeerd op hun oppervlak en men gaat er meestal vanuit dat zij aanmerkelijk minder dan 1,0% van het mineraal uitmaken. Wordt ook gebruikt voor elementen die voorkomen in plantaardig en dierlijk weefsel in concentraties van 1,0% of minder, die fysiologisch van essentieel belang zijn voor het organisme. |
