Note: Machine-made laces produced in Nottingham, England. In order to carry this designation, the lace may be of any variety of patterns, but it must be knitted, twisted or embroidered in the United Kingdom by a member of the British Lace Federation. The term originally referred to lace produced on the Nottingham-lace machines, which was an invention that was originally used primarily for coarse lace production, employing larger bobbins than other lace machines and using pattern threads that were wound independently on section spools.

Dutch ..... Verwijst in het algemeen naar machinaal geproduceerde kant uit Nottingham, Engeland. Alleen kant die in het Verenigd Koninkrijk is gebreid, gevlochten of geborduurd door een lid van de British Lace Federation (Britse Kantfederatie) mag dit predicaat dragen, waarbij de patronen heel gevarieerd kunnen zijn. De term was oorspronkelijk van toepassing op kant die werd geproduceerd met de Nottingham-kantmachines, een uitvinding waarmee aanvankelijk vrijwel alleen grof kant werd gemaakt door grotere klossen te gebruiken dan op andere kantmachines en te werken met patroondraden die op afzonderlijke deelspoelen waren gewonden.

Para tener esta designación, el encaje puede tener variados motivos, pero debe ser tejido, trenzado o bordado en el Reino Unido por un miembro de la Federación Británica de Encaje. El término originalmente se refería a un encaje producido en las máquinas de encaje Nottingham, los cuales fueron una invención que originalmente se usaban para la producción de encaje burdo, empleando bobinas más grandes que otras máquinas de encaje y usando hilos con motivos que fueron ovillados independientemente en carretes.
