Note: Lyres of the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf regions, having a circular or bowl-shaped body from which protrude two skin-covered arms, forming two sides of an isosceles triangle whose base is a yoke from which five or six strings, usually of gut, extend to the lower part of the body, attached there to a metal ring which also serves as a bridge.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Lieren met een ronde of komvormige klankkast waaruit 2 met dierenhuid bedekte armen omhoog steken die samen 2 zijden van een gelijkbenige driehoek vormen; de basis van de driehoek wordt gevormd door een juk waarvandaan 5-6 snaren, meestal van darm, naar het onderste gedeelte van de klankkast lopen, waar ze zijn bevestigd aan een metalen ring die ook als kam fungeert; gebieden rond de Middellandse Zee en de Perzische Golf. 
German ..... Schalenleier der Regionen um das Mittelmeer und den Persischen Golf mit einem runden oder schalenförmigen Korpus, von dem zwei Jocharme abgehen, die zwei Seiten eines gleichschenkligen Dreiecks bilden, dessen Basis aus einer Querstange, dem Joch, besteht; vo diesem Joch aus verlaufen fünf oder sechs Saiten, gewöhnlich aus Darm, zum unteren Korpusteil, wo sie an einem Metallring befestigt sind, der auch als Steg dient. 
Spanish ..... Liras de regiones del Mediterráneo y del Golfo Pérsico que tienen un cuerpo circular o en forma de bol desde el cual sobresalen dos brazos cubiertos de piel formando dos lados de un triángulo isósceles cuya base es un yugo desde cual hay cinco o seis cuerdas, generalmente de tripa tendidas hasta la parte inferior del cuerpo, fijándose allí a un anillo de metal el cual sirve también como puente.
