Note: Wood obtained from any of several species of the genus Shorea; sold as Philippine mahogany on the American market. It is a reddish- brown wood resembling mahogany in texture, weight, and strength, but it is not dimensionally stable with changes in relative humidity. Lauan wood is used for furniture, cabinetry, veneers, and boat building.
