Note: Generally, a layer of metal deposited upon a metal base, for purposes of decoration or to impart desirable physical or chemical properties. Distinct from "plate (object genre)" which refers to objects made of high quality solid silver or gold. The term is used more correctly for silverwork alone, but sometimes used loosely for goldwork as well.

In het algemeen een laagje metaal dat op een metalen basismateriaal wordt aangebracht, voor decoratieve doeleinden of om bepaalde gewenste fysische of chemische eigenschappen over te dragen. Wordt onderscheiden van 'pleet (objectgenre)', dat verwijst naar objecten die zijn gemaakt van hoge kwaliteit massief zilver of goud. Het is correcter om de term uitsluitend voor zilverwerk te gebruiken, maar hij wordt in minder strikte zin ook wel gebruikt voor goudwerk. |
| Spanish ..... En general, una capa de metal depositada sobre una base metálica con propósitos de decoración o para impartir propiedades físicas o químicas deseables. Diferente a "placa (género de objeto)", que se refiere a objetos fabricados con plata u oro sólidos de alta calidad. El término es utilizado más correctamente sólo para los objetos de plata, pero a veces se usa en forma flexible aplicándolo también a objetos de oro. |
