Note: Technique used on Ancient Greek pottery in which background and outlines of the figures were painted in black slip, leaving the design in the void of the background red clay, thus the figures were red in color. Details could be added in black with a brush, leading to greater sophistication than with black-figure vase painting. It appeared in Athens ca. 530 BCE.

| Dutch ..... Techniek die werd toegepast in de oud-Griekse pottenbakkerskunst, waarin de achtergrond en de silhouetten van figuren met zwart slib werden geschilderd. Het ontwerp bleef achter in de onbeschilderde achtergrond van rood klei, en de figuren waren dus rood. Details konden eventueel met een kwast in het zwart worden toegevoegd, waardoor een complexer ontwerp geproduceerd kon worden dan met de zwartfigurige stijl. Deze techniek ontstond in Athene rond 530 v.Chr. |
| Italian ..... Tecnica utilizzata sulle ceramiche dell'antica Grecia in cui lo sfondo e i contorni delle figure sono stati dipinti in nera, lasciando il disegno nel vuoto dello sfondo argilla rossa, quindi le figure erano di colore rosso. I dettagli potrebbero essere aggiunti in nero con un pennello, portando a più raffinatezza rispetto ai dipinti a figure nere. Le opere sono apparse ad Atene ca. 530 a.C. |
